Avalon Devotes Resources to Cleantech
TEl AVIV, May 16 , 2010 Avalon Capital will be offering Financial Advisory services to Israeli Cleantech companies. The decision to move into this sector stems from global industry trends and capital flows. Venture financing into Israel's cleantech industry represented approximately 10% in 2009 of total venture financing from nearly 2% just two years prior, according to the Israel Venture Association. Private Equity funding into Kibbutz companies, mostly in the water sector, has received considerable attention in recent years, with the privatization of Kibbutz industries. Israeli companies are considered world leaders in drip irrigation, desalinization, solar technology, battery operated vehicles, to name a few.
According to Jonathan Schwartz of Avalon Capital, "We believe that there is a fundamental shift towards clean technologies as natural resources are becoming scarce. Historically, Israel has been at the forefront in the clean technologies in order to find solutions to cope with the country's arid climate and lack of natural resources." Indeed, several high profile financings into this sector, including notable exits, have gotten the attention of multinationals and investors alike. The government has also provided incentives to encourage alternative sources of energy. "Avalon believes these trends will continue", says Schwartz. These factors contribute to entrepreneurial risk taking that is part of the Israeli culture.
Avalon will be devoting resources to the cleantech sector with a particular focus on water management, water treatment, irrigation and water infrastructure companies.
